Scotland sets its renewable energy target to 50% of demand by 2015

Alex Salmond revealed that a new interim target of 50% of its electricity demand will be met by renewable sources by 2015. The Scottish Government’s new target has been included and updated in the Routemap for Renewable Scotland in October 2012.

Scotland had exceeded its target of producing 31% of its electricity demand by 2011 by circa 4%. The SNP believe that the 50% target by 2015 is achievable. Scotland remains committed to its target of producing 100% of its electricity demand from renewable sources by 2020.

Scotland experienced £2.3bn of investment on green projects for the period April 2011 to June 2012. The SNP ministers are hopeful that this will create up to 4,500 jobs.
