Corwar Wind Farm Planning Appeal

WilloWind Energy today ( 27th November 2013) announced that it had submitted to Scottish Ministers an appeal against the decision of South Ayrshire Council to refuse planning consent for an 8 turbine wind farm with a total site capacity of 16.4MW at farmland located approximately 6.5  km east of Barrhill and approximately 20 km south-east of Girvan. The planning application and supporting documents were registered with South Ayrshire on 4 December 2012 and was refused planning permission by South Ayrshire Council on 29th August 2013.

Martin Davie, CEO of WilloWind Energy said “After due consideration and a review of the Council’s decision to turn down planning permission for the proposed Corwar Wind Farm, we have today submitted an appeal to Scottish Government Ministers”.

“We believe that we have very strong grounds for appeal. WilloWind Energy and our advisors consider that the Report submitted by the planning officer to Councillors for their determination was misleading and contained a number of inaccuracies. There are no formal objections to the application from any of the statutory consultees”.

We take the utmost care with our site selection for all our projects and had considered all representations made by the public before proceeding with this application.

Also, we consider the local community to be a crucial part of a successful wind farm development. By working together, we provide a real opportunity to bring about lasting economic benefit to communities.

“In addition to benefits such as community funding, developments like Corwar provides an excellent opportunity to act as an economic stimulant both locally and nationally in terms of construction jobs and materials and other related services.

“WilloWind Energy will, where these services and supplies are available, employ local companies for the construction and operation of the wind farm. We have stringent requirements for Environment, Safety and Quality and these form an important part of our contractor selection procedure.

“We believe that the Corwar site is an excellent location for the size of wind farm proposed and provides a good opportunity for the generation of green energy which will help meet the Scottish Government renewable energy targets and will contribute to the country’s future energy supply needs.”
